People? It's now 12.30pm and I've *just* caught up on my friends list. Seriously, I was offline for under 48 hours, and there were 125+ posts waiting for me. I don't know whether I should be glad about it or not. *g*

Another thing I realised on Saturday? I'm downright protective of Donna. I do not think she looks like a rat, I do not think she looks "flighty" and I think there was a good reason for Josh to be impressed by her (not because she has mastered the art of answering the telephone, but because she can do it and argue back against the great Josh Lyman, who has probably managed to make grown men break down in tears *g*). Do I believe she'll ever date Josh? No way in hell. None the less, I'm very fond of her and I like her greatly. I just hadn't realised it until I started defending her.

Now, time for fic.

I don't know if you've read the recaps for the 4th season at all, but I happened to just see a rerun of Inauguration II, which has this great scene at the end where Josh and the boys go to get Donna to bring her to one of the inauguration balls. She had lied to protect Jack Reese, and there was this great moment when Josh realized that she had done that out of an understanding of politics and what could happen to Jack because of what he had said to a reporter, and I think that's one of the great instances of Josh being impressed with her courage and loyalty. It was also an incredibly flirty interaction (moreso than much of their everyday conversation), but that's beside the point. ;)

Josh went into the conversation thinking Donna had done something incredibly stupid while talking to a reporter, and by the end he had realized that not only was she smart enough to not have made that kind of mistake in the first place but she had some idea of how to soften the blow of someone else's mistake in the second place.

Hmm, that was a very long and convoluted way to tell that story. That must be a sign that it is time for bed. ;)

Heh. It may be a sign at that.

Yeah, I think Donna gets vastly underrated by a lot of people. Then again, maybe it's just me that finds her innane tidbits of information rather endearing, not irritating.

She's highly capable, she keeps Josh in line and thinking about things, and she is an intelligent woman.

*shruggs* Then again, I'm kinda fond of all of the assistants (Mrs L, Margaret, Bonnie, Ginger, Cathy and Donna). When you think about it, it's surprising just how big the cast of characters on WW really is.

I like Donna, but I've never felt close to her. I think she's an interesting character but have never felt really drawn to her. I don't write her much, but often I love what other people do.

but I do not really believe that a romantic Josh/Donna relationship would ever end in anything but misery.

*nods* Yeah, I started a Donna POV but it's just languishing away in WiP limbo.

She's interesting, but she's not always easy to understand, to pin down.
