out_there: B-Day Present '05 (Relaxed Procrastination)
Had slashers over on Saturday ([livejournal.com profile] indybrat, [livejournal.com profile] charliequinn, Mirna, Genie and Cherry) and had a lot of fun. Then, as people lent me videos, I spent Sunday in bed watching stuff, and woke up feeling a bit off (not dying, just tired) and took today off sick.

Random thoughts:

- Finally saw some S3 DS. Ray K? He's cute in that Oz (Seth Green) way, but his accent's annoying. For my money, I'll stick to Ray V.

- Inspector Rex? Highly slashy and adorable show.

- Watched WW (ITSOTG) and was highly amused by [livejournal.com profile] charliequinn's comments on the first Sam/Josh flashback. She laughed over Sam's first comment ("You look fit") because, as she said, "people say that to each other all the time". *g* Although, I was more amused by her surprise when the next scene showed them eating hotdogs (she thought it was an euphemism. *g*).

- Between six of us, we ordered three family sized pizzas. Between the three pizzas, I was left with almost an entire pizza as left-overs. Guess what I've been eating for the last two days?

- Velvet Goldmine has very pretty boys (even if I can't help thinking of Brian Slade as Steerpike in another life) but a kinda depressing ending. Not so fun.

- Methos is snarky and highly amusing. Was that character even in the films? I'm curious.

- Hey, [livejournal.com profile] jmtorres, you're a MX fan. Do you know where the episode "Ex Marks the Spot" fits in (it's the one with Keith Cullum... I have no idea of hi s name, he's Ray K). I'm curious because I just saw it. As much as I love this dodgy series (and keep waiting for the two girls to just kiss already), it's logic is mightily flawed. If Jesse can phase through walls wearing clothing, obviously he has the ability to make inanimate objects (fabric, boots, or say, a faberge egg) phase through as well. Oh well, I never watched it for the plot...

- I must have watched about four hours of SN yesterday. I'm now watching it as a Dan/Casey meal, with a side order of Natalie/Dana. I think it's something about Sorkin's writing. I find his same-sex friendships far more believable, endearing, complex and committed than his actual relationships.

Hmmm... I'm off to find Velvet Goldmine slash... and probably re-read Lanning's SN fic. *g*

People? It's now 12.30pm and I've *just* caught up on my friends list. Seriously, I was offline for under 48 hours, and there were 125+ posts waiting for me. I don't know whether I should be glad about it or not. *g*

Another thing I realised on Saturday? I'm downright protective of Donna. I do not think she looks like a rat, I do not think she looks "flighty" and I think there was a good reason for Josh to be impressed by her (not because she has mastered the art of answering the telephone, but because she can do it and argue back against the great Josh Lyman, who has probably managed to make grown men break down in tears *g*). Do I believe she'll ever date Josh? No way in hell. None the less, I'm very fond of her and I like her greatly. I just hadn't realised it until I started defending her.

Now, time for fic.

Fic recs

Quick pimping of Should've Been and Go Thy Way, Daniel by Marguerite. They're not slash, they're just very good Dan-in-pain fics.

You know, it's now official: Dan's my favourite. I'm not quite sure why, but he just has more appeal to me than Casey. I mean, my Sam-love is still vastly stronger than my Dan -love, but there's a definite preference at work.

Daria slash! Yay! Full of Woe which works very well and feels a lot like Daria.

Mash slash. (You know, every time I come across good Mash slash, I just have the urge to say that phrase out loud until the sounds all merge.) Various Versions is a nice little Hawkeye/Trapper piece that just hits the right spot.

I know everyone's mentioned it, but Five Things That Never Happened (to Dan Rydell) is a great fic. I like all five of the scenarios, but honestly, I can't pick a favourite. I'm torn between 2 (smut!), 4 (I have a real fondness for that screwed-up Danny, plus there's just a bit of promise there) and 5 (Dan as a dad is adorable). It's such a good fic.

You know that feeling of thinking you've found what you want, and then finding out it isn't what you wanted at all? *grrrr* I finally find View Askewniverse fic, more specifically, Banky/Hooper fic, which I have bitched about the noticable lack of for months, and it ends up Banky/Holden. (It's Kicking and Screaming.)

I mean, seriously, am I the only one who walked away from Chasing Amy disliking Holden? What the heck is so great about the guy? I just don't see the appeal. Give me Banky any day of the week. (Or Hooper for that matter. And Alyssa was just...Mmmm...) I'm not, and I will never be, a Holden/Banky shipper. Ever.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] iibnf cheered me up from my Banky/Holden growl with these military handsignals. Hee! I think my favourite is "Tis is what I think of your Opinion".

I am sure that there are possibly better things to do on a sick day off work than sit in front of a computer screen reading fanfic. It's just a case of I can't think of any of them at the moment.

At the moment, I'm trolling through rec pages for SN recs, and coming across some other interesting fics too. I'm also being very thankful that my computer has no issue with having multiple IE windows open at once (in other words, I currently have at least 20 different fics open, plus email and LJ Friends *g*).

On the bad side, the pizza's all gone and there's too many good fics for me to be bothered cooking. Hmmm... However, I am in the mood for Weetbix and sugar. *g*

Sam/Dan

Remember my Sam-love? Now add my Dan-love, and imagine a crossover. *g*

Yeah, You Just Have to be Chocolate Cake is a Sam/Dan fic that works. Not a happy ending, just two guys that had a one night stand and occasionally run into each other. It's a good fic, with five scenes set over five years, which blends the two worlds nicely and acheives a crossover without any obvious character assasination.

If Sam and Dan did meet, it would be like this. And the ending would be like this too, disillusioned and uncertain; two men who have seen the world, who have struggled through it, and in the end, no longer believe in happy endings.

Some fics happen slowly, gently building towards that wonderfully satisfying ending. Other are fast and furious and so hot they sizzle. Really, I'm not rec'ing either of those types. These are the laugh out loud, highly snarky and in character fics that really amused me this evening.

Visual aid is a cross between a comedy and trainwreck, out of control and funny as hell. You go from laughing at the pure Casey-ness of Casey, to talking to your computer screen and asking "What the fuck are doing, Casey?!", but you can't turn away until it comes to a sweet, slow stop.

Repercussions is another fic by Charlemagne that hits that right note between ridiculous and touching, and is certainly amusing. And more than a little hot.

Okay, let's make this simple. Just go and check out all of Charlemagne's stuff, okay? Gynecology is another one that feels right and makes me laugh.

Flora and Fauna and Bob by Julian Lee is probably the first time I've given myself a headache from laughing too loud. This is just how I see Casey reacting to the idea of Dan seeing guys, supportive and joking, with sexual tension simmering just under the surface. Highly fun.

And, just because I'm slightly head over heels for Dan/Casey, doesn't mean I've forgotten about my first Sorkin slash couple. Hence, a quick rec for You And Me In a Rowboat To Rio, complete with jokes about Josh's receding hairline, a scary bamboo couch and the urge to sleep with someone pretty and stupid. It's Sam and Josh taking a vacation back in S1, when they still had enthusiasm and hope. It's a lovely uplifting piece that always reminds me why I fell for these boys.

"I'm not hip enough," Sam said. "How can you be friends with someone
so uncool?"

"It makes me look better," Josh said. "If you ever started being cool I'd
have to dump you and hang out with Toby."

Plus, there's making out on the beach. That's always a good thing.

Okay, in the morning when I curse about being at work, you guys know it's all self-inflicted. Damn the SN boys for being so hot and entertaining. *g*

Note to self )

Ooh, and since Genie just wrote me a snippet of dialogue (it's what comes from discussing Dan, Casey and ties as a kink at 11.30pm) I may have to write a snippet in return.

BTW, for any Aussies out there, Velvet Goldmine should be starting now on Channel 10.
