A Pirate's Life for Me..

I saw PoTC yesterday. Twice. *g* Once with slashers (Genie and Mirna), and then again with my brother. You know one of the most amusing things? Half of the comments my brother leaned over to say to me during the film, were things that I'd whispered to Genie the first time I saw it. (The other amusing thing is that I scammed my way in for the second showing, without buying a new ticket. I mean, sure it doesn't quite have the dangers of being a pirate, but I think it honours the spirit of piracy!)
*Love* that film! I've seen it twice, and I'd be happy to see it again. It's been a while since I've walked away from a film equally loving the leads. (Bring on the threesome fic. *g*)
Jack Sparrow really reminds me of Bernard from Black Books.
To explain to people who haven't seen this great English comedy series, Black Books is set in a bookstore and features three main characters. Bernard owns the book store, is constantly in that space between drunk and hungover and prefers to sit around drinking wine than actaully selling books. Mannie is Bernard's assistant and kinda neurotic in his own adorable way, and Frannie runs the store beside them, and tends to have the same attitude to drinking as Bernard (ie. it's a lifestyle).
Bernard does the same half-hearted hand movements, a similar deep voice, and kinda does the swaying thing too. In the "But why is the rum gone?" scene, you could have replaced Jack with Bernard and barely noticed the diffference (well, apart from their appearances, at least). It would have been the same intonation, the same lack of understanding, the same wandering off and bitching about the other person.
However, as my brother pointed out, the big difference in is the way they would have captained the ship. Jack actually acts as captain and gives orders. Bernard would be sitting around with a wine glass in his hand, whining that's it's too much effort to think about these thing and can't they just get on with...with making the boat move...by themselves?
