Last night had good news and bad news. On the bad side, nothing I did could get the Firefly episode to play with the correct sound. This happened on the last episode too. The sound is about a second or two (which is a long period of time when you're watching something) in front of the visuals. It's really disconcerting and totally takes away from the violence. (I can hear people fighting but I've got to wait another second to find out who the hell hit who.)

On the good side, I found out that both of those files were avi files. The others are pretty much all rm, which works fine. Hence, I'm looking forward to the next ep. (And I love Simon and Mal. And Zoey and Inara. But you guys already knew that, right?)

I woke up this morning and listened for the daily temperature. Didn't quite catch it, and thought I heard 32C (90F). Realised that's pretty unlikely and it must be 22C (72F). (Since our last week has been 20-25C, I thought that was a reasonable assumption.)

This morning was very nice, but far too warm for 22C. Wow, we've just hit a summer day. *g*

I'm so glad I dressed for colour, even though I thought I'd be cold. I'm actually wearing a summery skirt and top, and it's well-suited to the weather. Of course, this is also when I should be glad I work in air-conditioning!

I've managed to leave my watch on the train this morning. (*grrrr* I really liked that watch! Glow in the dark and everything...) Last night I left my glasses at work.

I'm waiting for the third thing I'll forget with a strong sense of misgiving.

Today's going to be social. I'm meeting [livejournal.com profile] charliequinn for lunch, and then after work, I'm going to Mum's new workplace for a wine-tasting session. (It's more to be socially-supportive to Mum than for the wine, but it's still an interesting outing.)

Also, Mum's workmates have invited her out for dinner and clubbing tomorrow night, and Mum's invited me. Always helps to have someone you know you can get on the dancefloor when going out. (Also helps to have company, or an excuse as the case may be, when making an early exit if you're totally bored.)

Okay, since I'm behind on SV canon and have lost Vissy's CD (Where the hell did I put it? Seriously, my room is a total mess at the moment. You could lose Texas in there.), I'm asking for help.

Canonically, what do we know about Lionel's childhood. I've noticed there's a sudden influx of Lionel childhood stories on W100, and that usually means that there's been something revealed recently. So, what do we know?

Have a look at the length of this entry. Can we tell the boss isn't in the office yet?

ETA: Added the Fahrenheit conversions for the Yanks out there. Okay, now I really need to get some work done. Although there is a new Casey/Dan fic on [livejournal.com profile] inthetallgrass...

Canonically, what do we know about Lionel's childhood. I've noticed there's a sudden influx of Lionel childhood stories on W100, and that usually means that there's been something revealed recently. So, what do we know?

Of course, we know from LuthorCorp's website that he's a self-made billionaire who holds double degrees from an Ivy League school in economics and bio-something engineering, and the pilot script orginally described him (as Glover has in interviews since then) as a former street brawler who climbed his way up through the corporate world to become the business mogul we see today.

But the most recent thing we learned (in Relic) is that his parents died in a fire that ravaged their tenament in Suicide Slums, where Lionel grew up. Turns out the fire was arson, more importantly, it was an explosion that was centered in the Luthor family's apartment. We also learned that Lachlan Luthor (Lionel's dad) was a petty criminal and that Lionel covered both this and the story of their death up during his climb to the top of the corporate world. He said it's not the sort of thing that goes over well at cocktail parties. Heh.

Chloe revealed last night that Morgan Edge (of Exile & Phoenix and comics book canon fame), the crime lord king of the underworld, was Lionel's closest childhood friend. She discovered this through snooping and revealed it to Lex, but we had hints of their past already from Exile & Phoenix, when they waxed fondly over memories of their youth/threatened each other/flirted over drinks and a later meeting at the docks which turned really bad, really fast, when a truck exploded and Lionel assumed Morgan had set him up. There was a shoot out between the Edge people and the Luthor security team, that ended with Morgan being shot and falling off the pier, not to be seen again, and presumed dead.

I tell you all of this because I have no idea what you've seen of S3 yet. It's been hinted at by Lionel that whatever he had on Morgan is so incriminating that the statute of limitations doesn't run out on it--namely murder. So...you put the puzzle pieces together from what I told you above and what we know of Lex Luthor's comic canon past (he arranged the murdered his parents to collect on the life insurance premium on them and finance the beginnings of his fortune), and figure out where they might be going with all this. *g*

Hope that helps, babe!

And, uh, you see now why I had to end the Leo series. Jossed all to hell, damn it.

Thanks a lot for the info, Wendi. I've seen up to Perry (but not Perry itself), but not all of S2. I'm sorta in the process of working out if I can get an Aussie friend to copy the eps for me, I just need to make sure I can play them.

Aw, man, I prefer the Leo backstory.

I mean, this one works, and I've posted before about just how much Lionel reflects comic-Lex so I'm a little amused by that. Lionel just puts so much stock in being a Luthor, and being wealthy/powerful/important, that it's believable that he's made the money himself through force. (However, the Morgan thing? So flirting!)

Meanwhile, I'm just going to sit in this corner and pout, because that royally screws with my fic idea.
