Icon Meme taken from
celli.
1. What's your favourite icon at the moment?
This is so damn hard. *sigh* I can't do it. The best I can do is my favourite five, in no particular order.

Sleepy Sam, because I love that shot of him *so* much. I also like the clarity of the finished icon, and just looking at it makes me feel all... sleepy and content.

My Love icon. It's also my femslash icon, but more than that, it's my hug icon. When you need a hug, or you just want to comfort someone, that's the icon. On a technical note, I'm really damn pleased with the way it turned out. I had to fiddle a lot with the lighting and the contrast to draw attention to the hug, and it worked well.

Sunshine Smile by
oxoniensis because lex looks so happy. It's just... it's pretty and easy to read and highly effective, and makes me want to grin.

Whoosh by
celli. It made me giggle when I first saw it, and it still makes me giggle now. Whoosh! *flaps hands at you*

My "I *heart* Casey" icon by
saava. To steal Celli's expression: *dies*. That icon just... makes me squirm in the good way. He's just so... lickable. *drags thoughts away from Casey*
There are other icons I'm really damn fond of, and there's some that I'm looking at and know I'll replace sooner or later. (And, now that I'm looking closely, the cropping on the Oscar Wilde Fandom icon is bothering me, as is the text on the WW Flirt.
2. Which of your icons have you had the longest, what is it, and what do you think it is that appeals to you and makes you keep it?
That's an easy one. My procrastination icon would have been one of the first ten icons I made (possibly in the first five). I still like it because it *does* describe me. My ability to totally lay back and relax, even when I really need to be doing other stuff (or, like, waste my time doing icon memes, when I need to catch up on work *g*). I still find it visually appealing, and... it's a good description of where my mind is at most of the time.

The next two oldest ones are probably my Talkative Faith icon (which I keep because I do tend to get in moods where I'm just talking for the sake of it, and Eliza Dushku! *raowr*) and my animated Sexy Glasses icon (animated with help from
oxoniensis. I have a new version that
oxoniensis made featuring Clark in glasses, and the old one's a little dodgy, but I still like it. (It's one that will probably be reworked someday.)
3. What do you look for when you're choosing? The funny? The pretty? The fandom/interest appropriate? The personal?
Mentally/emotionally appropriate. I like having amused icons for when I'm amused, or talkative ones when I'm just chatting about stuff, angry ones when I'm in a snit, and sad ones when that episode made me want to bawl my eyes out.
I'm a big fan of the funny, but I don't always come up with it. However, I seem to manage to come up with the funny more than the pretty... Basically, I like icons that *mean* something, even if it only means something to me.
4. Animated icons. Good, okay in small amounts, or bloody annoying?
Good. I can't do them myself, so I don't have a lot of them, but I really like some of the animated icons. (Others can just be distracting, but most are good.)
5. Is posting with the same icon as someone else the equivalent of going to a wedding and wearing the same dress as the bride's sister? Or worse, her brother?
Not at all. It's fannish solidarity!
6. Any kind of icons you don't like?
The ones that take over my brain? Um... no. I prefer icons where I can read the text, and where the colours aren't too harsh, but... even so, there's been some icons like that which are fabulous, so I can't say I have any hard and fast rules.
7. If LJ removed the icon function tomorrow, would it bother you enough to make you migrate elsewhere?
Honestly? No. I like the icons and think they're tres cool.
8. Pick, say five or so icons, that work for you or made you sit up and take notice (Or if you can't be arsed with all that right-click, img src crap, point to the user who has it and describe)

First of all,
deadspiders's Orlando Bloom icon. It cracks me up because it's so damn true. Seriously. Look at the icon, and then you'll notice it the next time you sit through one of his films...

I had to pick two of
celli's. The Crayon one I love. It works so well, it looks so funky, and...yeah, I have days like that too. The Puppet-Angel one is adorable, and makes me snigger.

I'm indecisive this morning. Had to choose another two from
bananasrock's icons. The Toby Fun Table one? Perfect cranky Toby icon. I like the snark, I love the font, and it's so Toby it makes me grin. The one I actually wanted to point out was the Dan & Casey Nothing Vague About It icon, which always makes me catch my breath. I like the fact that the icon *is* kinda vague - I always have to look twice for my eyes to adjust to the half-lit tones. It always takes me a second to click that it's Dan and Casey, and then there's that thrill of "Mmmmmm..." as my mind wanders from that image. (Yes, I find it super porny.)

svmadelyn's Shagging Clex icon always cracks me up. Wait, watch the entire thing. So damn funny. (It was actually made by
schala4 who has some great icons, including a great Xander one and my favourite Sam&Toby icon:

...and wow, this meme made me look through a lot of icons, so I'll finish up with
speshope's Casey/Dan icon "Sorkin slash" because it's so damn funny. Anyone who knows the repetitive nature of sorkinese, will understand why this one makes me totally giggle.

Date: 2004-03-02 04:35 pm (UTC)Me too. It's like most of my icons. The ones that work seem to do so by complete fluke. (I sure as hell don't know how to duplicate the effects... *g*)

Heh. Nice to see I'm not the only one who reacts to that icon with *omg-guh!*.
Ooops, didn't put a link. It's Oro's (

Date: 2004-03-02 11:33 pm (UTC)I had a random half dream the other morning where Sam was sleeping on Toby's couch, and Toby threw his briefcase on Sam's head. I don't really know what it meant, or even why I'm telling you, but there you have it.

I'm inordinately proud of that icon. It makes me seem really narcissistic, dancing around going "Oh! I rock! How much do I rock?!" But really, I'm only like that about that icon.
"Whoosh! You're Gay!" Happens to be one of my favorite icons ever.

Date: 2004-03-02 10:50 pm (UTC)Hey, relax and enjoy the thrill! It's seriously *cool*. Plus, I can just hear the Casey/Dan dialogue in my head, especially Casey's "Huh."
In fact, I've spent a great deal of time today just staring at it and mouthing along with the text. (And, I have to say, it's at a really good speed. Not too fast to read, not slow enough to bog down the sorkinese.)
