*looks around LJ*
Seriously. There's three SN ficlets of debateable quality that seem to have just disappeared. It's very odd.
Nevermind. I found it.
Anyway, the offers still open if anyone wants to request another ficlet based on one of my user icons. Ummm... yes, I *am* trying to avoid work.
*sighs*
*looks at long to-do list*
I'd better get back to work now.

Yeah, they're not as bad as they sound. On the good side, I've got sneakers with me, so I don't have to keep wearing these heels.
Knight in Shining Armor
Date: 2004-03-25 05:46 am (UTC)"You'd think they'd like each other more," Pete said, apropos of nothing.
Chloe blinked at the textbook spread open on her desk. For a second, she wondered if x and y's mutual dislike was why the equation wouldn't work. Scowling, she turned to Pete. "What?"
Pete was toying with his pen, ignoring the equations in front of them. "Clark and Adam?"
"What about them?"
"They don't seem to like each other," Pete explained, shrugging.
Chloe rolled her eyes. "Of course not."
Pete looked at her, but stayed silent as Mrs Meesh stalked around the classroom. By the time she sat down at her desk, Chloe was halfway through the next question. "They've got a lot in common," Pete whispered.
"Who do?"
"Adam and Clark." Pete looked at her sharply. "What’s wrong with you?"
Chloe sighed. "No coffee."
Pete grimaced. "First period math without caffeine? No wonder you can't keep up with my riveting conversation."
Chloe snorted. "This from the guy who thinks Clark and Adam should be bosom buddies."
Pete pulled a face halfway between mockery and confusion. "They have a lot in common."
"Too much."
"Huh?"
She put her pen down and leaned closer. "They have too much in common."
Now Pete looked interested. "What do you mean?"
"Think about it." Chloe lowered her voice. "Physically, they're very similar. Tall, dark-haired, pretty boys. They both seem to be able to hold their own in a fight."
Pete nodded. "And...?"
"They're the two most secretive teenagers I know."
Pete looked down at his notebook. "Clark isn't..."
"The only people who make Clark look honest and straightforward have either Knight or Luthor as a last name."
Pete seemed torn between defending his friend and laughing at him. After a moment, he said, "So, you think that's why they don't get on?"
Chloe shook her head. "You're forgetting one important factor."
"What?"
"They both like playing the hero to Lana's damsel in distress." Pete shot her a look and Chloe wondered if she'd been too harsh. Maybe she'd been a little rough on Lana. "Sorry. No coffee."
Pete snickered. "Adam does like being her Knight in shining armor."
Chloe groaned. "That's a bad pun, Pete."
"There's such a thing as a good pun?" Pete asked with an unrepentant grin.
"No."

Date: 2004-03-25 05:55 am (UTC)I like Chloe and Pete, and I only seem capable of snark at the moment. *G*
But you really should post it properly, not just in a comment, so everyone can read it. And the YA fic.
Hmmmm... Okay, I'll post links to them in my LJ before I go to bed.

And are you planning on writing more of these icon drabbles?
Originally, I did it as a fic request. So, if there's one or two of my icons that you want a story about, let me know which ones they are and I'll give it a shot. *g*
Cheesy and Fun
Date: 2004-03-25 05:51 am (UTC)Will stretched out on the bed, staring at the plain white ceiling of Jake's room. "Do you think it's cheesy?"
Scout shrugged and shifted against the side of the bed. If he turned his head, he'd probably see Jake and Hamilton sitting against the wall, half-huddling and half-cuddling. He shook the rhyme out of his head.
Behind him, Will harrumphed and weakly hit Scout's shoulder. "I want a second opinion. Is it cheesy?"
"Cheesy?" Scout turned to see Hamilton blinking wide blue eyes at Jake. "How?"
"Everyone does it," Will explained with a dissatisfied sigh. "It's one of those ideas that tries to be original, but ends up helplessly cheesy and cliched."
"It's just an excuse for a party," Hamilton said, ducking his head towards Jake.
"And it's a pretty good excuse," Jake added, grinning as Hamilton trailed fingers down his... her... Jake's arm. Scout let his head flop back against the bed. If it was a choice between watching the happy couple or the white paint, the ceiling was definitely getting his vote.
"Yeah, but is it cheesy?" his fellow ceiling-watcher asked. Scout rolled his eyes at Will's petulant tone.
"Does it really matter?" he asked wearily.
The mattress under Scout's head shuddered as Will sat up quickly. "Of course it matters."
"It's just a party," Scout objected.
Will leaned over the top of him, staring down at Scout from barely a foot away. "You didn't answer my question."
He grinned up at Will and resisted the urge to blow the short fringe out of Will's eyes. "I don't think it matters."
Will smiled and narrowed his eyes, but Hamilton interrupted before Will spoke. Scout almost frowned as Will sat back on the bed.
Hamilton raised an eyebrow. "Scout's right. All of Rawley's celebrations are kind of cheesy."
"It's not like there's a high standard of originality. There's even a Spring Fling," Jake said, grimacing. "No-one cares. They just want an excuse to get together and meet girls."
"And drink without any authority figures finding out," Hamilton added with a wide smile.
Will sighed dejectedly. "So it is cheesy?"
"It's 'Christmas In July'." Scout waved a hand vaguely. "Of course it's cheesy."
Will collapsed back against the mattress. "Oh."
"But it is fun," Hamilton offered with a tilt of his head.
"Yeah," Scout said, noticing the way Hamilton's hand crept across Jake's leg. Considering the way their hands were starting to wander, he and Will were going to get kicked out very soon. "Cheesy and fun."
Standing up, Scout held a hand out to Will. Will took it and stood up, but shot him a puzzled glance. He looked pointedly at the discreet groping and Will got the hint. "Okay, cheesy and fun. I can work with that."
Scout cleared his throat. "Guys? We're going to go."
Hamilton looked up and colored slightly. "Okay."
Jake just grinned. "See you guys later."
They closed the door behind them and then Will turned to Scout with a thoughtful expression. "That could be the theme."
Scout watched Will closely. "What could?"
Will raised his hands, separating them as if holding up an imaginary banner. "Cheesy and Fun!"

It's oddly easy to write to a defined little image. Try it. *pokes you* Write me a Will ficlet for your Summer Rain icon.
Summer Rain
Date: 2004-03-25 07:06 am (UTC)It was just one more thing that Rawley Academy had changed for him. To start with, there was the luxury of not having to leave the building on a rainy day if he didn't want. He could just gaze out of the window during class, and enjoy the sound of it against old windows. And summer rain showers were always short, so when the sun came out, the grounds looked clean and fresh and reborn, not muddy like the garden at home. A little Eden, he'd think secretly to himself, knowing that Scout would mock him mercilessly if he said that out loud.
And now, well, Eden was all about discovery and temptation and giving in. And that's what today's rain shower had given him. And while God might have cast out Adam and Eve for giving into temptation, he was still here in his own personal paradise.
There'd been no threat of rain this morning when he and Scout had set off for the lake. They'd planned some half-hearted studying and some whole-hearted babe watching. But the girls from Rawley were all conspicuous by their absence, and Will had suddenly remembered Caroline mentioning an excursion for this Saturday. He'd made a few sounds of disappointment that he didn't really feel, and then they'd found a quiet spot, spread out the huge blanket they'd illegally brought outside, and settled down to do some actual studying.
They were in the middle of working out the probability that the second marble out of a bag would be black, given that there were six black and 8 red marbles in the bag to start with, not knowing the color of the first one removed (and Will had to wonder what on earth the point of that was), when an appropriately marble sized splash landed on his text book. Then another, and another, blurring the ink on his math book, so that the neat diagram he'd been drawing started to spread out and look more like the Nile delta than a probability diagram.
And that's when it all started to happen, the discovery and giving in. He'd looked up to see Scout closing his books rapidly, rain trickling down his fringe already, about to fall onto his face. It had been an unconscious act to stroke his fringe back, and once his fingers were there, they didn't seem to want to leave. Scout's hair felt even silkier than Caroline's used to, back in the days when they'd dated. And Scout had looked at him, and they'd had one of those frozen moments, which felt so very, very long, but probably only lasted a second in real time. It wasn't the first such moment: there'd been one the very first night they shared a room, but then they hadn't known each other, and a few overly casual words had got them past it.
But now they did know each other. A whole summer together, the last few weeks just the two of them most of the time, had dulled the fear that crippled Will when a 'moment' happened between them. So this time, he didn't speak, didn't try to pretend nothing was happening, he just moved. Moved inwards, inside Scout's space, too close. Not close enough. And now Scout was moving too, and Will still had his fingers lightly touching his hair, so he knew that Scout hadn't even begun to move away from him, felt the lean towards him even before he could see it.
And when they met in the middle, the rain was streaking down their faces, so the first touch of lips was a curious mixture of cold water and warm skin. Which was perfect. A few simple kisses, tentative at first, and then comfortable, because they were friends after all. And then they'd pulled back and Scout had wiped a huge drop of rain off Will's nose, and they'd laughed. But they didn't pretend it hadn't happened.
And now, here they were, curled up in Scout's bed, listening to the rain battering the windows still.
Will would always love summer rain.

Hee! I meant to mention that the Bible reference was great. Just pretensious enough to be Will, but so heartfelt it's almost endearing.

Ooh, how disciplined! Much better than me and my constant number of wips. (On an amusing note, I drycleaned my coat in preparation of winter, and found a tiny notepad in one pocket, complete with WW wip. Man, I'd forgotten I'd even started that. *g*)
