Okay, Mum's talking about joining Jenny Craig/Weight Watchers/some similiar weight-loss type group. We've never tried doing the organised, part-of-a-group weight loss thing, so... *shrugs*

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had been part of a similar thing. How does it work? How did it feel? Would you recommend it?

I'm not so much cautiously optimistic about this idea as just plain cautious.

I've been on weight watchers for a little while. Fuck it, I'll be blunt. I had a scary doctors visit. Nothing bad- except for being weighed for the first time in 4 years. 4 years in which I'd put one 30 lbs. I have so far lost 10 lbs. I am advised to lose a pound a week, which is manageable. I think Weight Watchers is very good. The online program is very clear and convenient. The flex points save my sanity.
I hate dieting, but this is the way to go. Slow and steady. Damn it. ;-)

Forgot to include website. www.weightwatchers.com
The program amounts to- each kind of food is a given number of "points". You stay within your advised range of points for the day. You therefore lose weight by avoiding snacks and stuff with high point values when you can have something healthier.

Heh. Well, since I broke my foot a couple years ago, I jumped about 20 kg (um... 45 lbs). I mean, I've always been overweight, but...

*sigh* Yeah, I hate dieting/exercising, but Mum has a point.

Thanks for the info. *mulls*

I do WW online, and so far I've lost 17 pounds on it. I'm not much for the group thing, but my friends that do say it's very useful. I like the online stuff because you can track your meals on a daily basis. SO helpful if you're me and lying to yourself about how much you eat. :)

There's even a community for it! [livejournal.com profile] fandom_ww

Personally, I'm... I hit instant negativity-mode when I think about losing weight. My automatic reaction is to reach for the sugar at the idea of dieting. So, we're kind of hoping "group" will mean "able to motivate me/able to motivate Mum despite my negativity".

I did WW at work, and lost about 9.5 kgs, so I'd recommend them :) But you've got to find what works for you, but do stay away from unhealthy things like Aitkens!

not so much with the Jenny Craig, but WW and other slimming groups that don't make you eat their food are good. says me who doesn't actually go to any anymore ;)
