Dec. 31st, 2007 02:02 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Well, since the cool kids (read:
celli) are doing it, let's try this. (ETA: After doing this, I'm going to start posting wordcounts on finished fics. It would have made this process a lot easier to do.)
***
January
Wrote the last 2,329 words of my Jeeves/Wooster story, Jeeves and the Tennis Coach, which I didn't get betaed and posted until October 2007.
February
A Depressingly Average Morning
Torchwood, gen, PG, 1000 words. Written for the
picfor1000 challenge.
Slippery-dips, psychic fields, and a Jack-with-a-box: a depressingly average morning for Torchwood.
March
Worked on an SN wip, but didn't post anything.
April
Set in Stone
House drabblefic, House and Wilson, PG, 901 words.
Prompts: House/Wilson, apology
Started working on the House Moving wip promised to
researchgrrrl which I still haven't finished.
May
Our Earth Logic
Sports Night, Casey/Dan, PG, sequel to "Insane Troll Logic" and written for the Taxfic 07 challenge. 1760 words.
Take one Tuesday night, three SN employees and a little alcohol, then listen to the conversation.
June
Even When Drunk
SGA, John/Rodney, PG, 1156 words. (First draft actually written while drunk.)
Placing two hands on the sides of his chair, John straightened himself.
And took a deep breath.
Then he said, in his most sober, in-control, trust-me-I'm-an-air-force-employee tone, "Totally sober."
July
No-Intervention Policy
Sports Night ficlet, Dan/Casey, G, 334 words.
Isaac operates under a strict no-intervention policy.
The Tastes of Aliens
Torchwood, gen, PG, 1412 words. For Celli's birthday.
One of the best things about having a team was being able to observe them unnoticed. Like a nature documentary: watching them in their natural habitat. It was fun.
Also wrote 693 words of a Torchwood coffee snippet, which I never turned into the PWP I originally imagined.
August
Worked on the Torchwood wip that became Confessions.
September
Confessions
Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, PG, post-Countrycide. 7356 words.
One brush with cannibalistic villagers and everyone felt the sudden urge to confess.
Dan's Dad
Sports Night ficlet, gen, G, 416 words.
The thing -- the thing that Dan can’t explain to Casey no matter how many times he’s tried -– is that knowing your father’s a jerk doesn’t actually make things better.
October
What Seems Like Surrender
Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, PG, 2240 words.
Jack’s return, and what really matters.
Missing
Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, PG, 942 words.
Ianto misses the little things.
Stones & Ripples
Torchwood, gen, pre-S1, written to explore Ianto's arrival to the group. 12,991 words.
Considering that it appeared to be run by a man with no consideration of paperwork, bureaucracy or meticulous thinking, Torchwood Three was the most logical place to hide.
Three Alarms
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, R, 463 words.
Every couple develops "getting up in the morning" routines. This is theirs.
Of Bratz and Barbies
Heroes, gen, Matt & Mohinder, G, 579 words.
Matt had never imagined standing in the middle of a hot-pink aisle, trying to argue *for* Barbie dolls.
Start Me Over
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, PG, 6820 words.
A year ago, this was precisely what Matt wanted with Janice: a kid of their own, a place of their own, a domestic routine of chores and TV and homework. That tells him everything.
Simple, Uncomplicated
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, NC-17, 3012 words
It's familiar and it's easy -- the way sex with buddies is always simple, uncomplicated.
How We Wish
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, PG, post-Kindred, 3241 words.
Matt wants to yell and shout, but this isn't Mohinder's fault. At least, it isn't all Mohinder's fault, but right now, Matt can't feel the difference.
Familiarity
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, NC-17, 335 words
Matt likes the familiar.
Drabble Challenge:
SGA Drabbles: Some Days; The Pot Calling the Kettle-- (677 words)
Heroes Drabbles: Sundays; Boogying Down to Disco Town (1,306 words)
November
Like Father, Like Son
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, PG, post-The Kindness of Strangers, 1,994 words.
Your father has Molly. I need to know what he'll do, what type of man he is," Mohinder says, although he already has suspicions from the hurt slouch of Matt's shoulders, from the harsh way Matt spoke about him, that Matt's father is someone that he would not like under the best of circumstances.
The Naked Variety
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, NC-17, 2,726 words
Matt wonders for a moment, if he says no, if Mohinder will continue without him. The idea of Mohinder spread out naked on the bed, hands sliding over his own skin, jerking himself off while Matt watches...
The Lack of Surprise
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, PG, post-Out of Time, 1,426 words.
"You don't get it. This isn't about intentions. These people-- There isn't a right here. There's just wrong and more wrong."
Unexpected
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, PG, post-Out of Time. Sequel to "The Lack of Surprise". 1,340 words
The door opened and there stood Mohinder, bleary eyes and jaw darkened by stubble, white shirt creased and crumpled. "The locks haven't been changed yet," he said gently, stepping inside and closing the door behind him.
The Fleeting Value of Happiness
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, PG, spoilers for Cautionary Tales. 2051 words.
Everything comes at a cost. Even happiness.
Welcome Home
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, NC-17, 3,935 words
Matt could claim that waking Mohinder is for Mohinder's own good but the truth is far simpler: Mohinder's been away for weeks and now he's in their bed, half-naked.
Fan Mail
Sports Night/fireball (SGA AU) crossover, for
slodwick's birthday, G, 2,013 words.
Casey says NASCAR isn’t a sport (but his real issue is the length of Rodney McKay’s responses), while Dan’s interest in NASCAR is strictly personal.
December
A Minor Operation
Sports Night, Casey/Dan preslash, G, 1,479 words. Written for the
sn_holidays challenge.
"Over there," Casey pointed, arm straight and one finger stabbing at the air, "some surgeon is holding a scalpel and about to cut my son open. My ex-wife is flying back from her romantic break to Hawaii and will probably blame me for interrupting her vacation and for the fact that Charlie is about to be sliced from head to foot. Unreasonable as it is, entertaining you with sparkling conversation isn't my highest priority right now."
Go With The Flow
Heroes, Matt/Mohinder, NC-17, 1,334 words.
Eyes closed, facing into the streaming water of the shower, Matt heard the bathroom door open. The argument about shower time, well, that was just one of those things about living with someone. This morning, Matt was pretty sure he was right: he'd only just stepped into the shower. "I think I deserve at least another five minutes."
Also working on Moms Heroes wip, which is now up to 13,637 words.
***
Conclusion:
Conclusion:
33 stories, counting the drabbles and ficlets individually.
Breakdown by fandom:
1 Jeeves & Wooster
7 Torchwood
4.5 Sports Night (.5 for the crossover)
16 Heroes (all featuring Matt and Mohinder)
1 House
3.5 Stargate Atlantis (.5 for the crossover)
Total words written: 81,861
I've got to say, that's a much higher output than I realised. What I'm noticing is:
a) Heroes, specifically Matt/Mohinder, are clearly my latest OTP. I wonder if I can possibly sustain that level of output.
b) As I noticed earlier this year, super-high output from me means that emotionally I'm feeling worse. The months where I started feeling bad and kept growing worse were from October (not counting "Stones and Ripples" which was probably written the month before, I still wrote 19,578 words in that month alone) onwards. Up until October, I'd posted a total of 17,357 words.
c) As a general trend, I'm writing longer stories. Not insane-long, but longer.
d) Every year, I think NaNoWriMo is an insane idea nad there's no way anyone could churn out that number of words. And then I'm amazed at how the words add up over the year.
