Oooh! Proof that I'm getting better: I wrote. (Also, I've been online for nearly three hours, and I don't have a headache so horrible I just want to sit in a corner and cry! Yay, me!)

Anyway, I wrote WW fic. Just a little Josh/Sam drabble for the [livejournal.com profile] contrelamontre Fire challenge, set vaguely in S1. It was written in sixty-five minutes, and I'm not altogether well, so it's probably a bit awkward, but still. It's a definite sign that I'm getting much better.

Title: Burning
Fandom: West Wing
Pairing: Sam/Josh
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Josh reminds you of fire.

Hey, does anybody out there speak/write French? I just want a quick spellcheck on two phrases. I tried looking at online dictionaries, but I don't know enough to be able to use them. I can say them, but I can't spell them )

Anyway, wrote a little more on the Homophobic fic, and that's officially yet another fic that's longer than my SN longfic. (I've gotta stop letting Danny intimidate me so much. *g*)

Oh, man.

Wow. Just... wow. The Mating Dance by [livejournal.com profile] paperbkryter is a SV fic set during the end of S2/start of S3 and it's bound to blow your mind.

There are some things that you just don't believe, that you know could never appear believable, even in fic, and then there's those fics that make it *work*.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I'd suggest you read. Wow.

[livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis made some great YA screencaps, and I couldn't resist. You can't see the goofy smiles as clearly as I would have liked, but it does sum up the appeal of Young Americans.

Am not pleased that Angel got bumped to tomorrow because of the Wog Boy. (And, for others who have seen that film, am I the only one who finds his miraculous pick-up line highly cringeworthy? I would not be impressed by someone saying that to me.)

And, because I obviously needed an angsty Josh fic, I read when we weren't speaking. It's a post-ITSOTG fic, Josh/Kenny, that makes the pairing seem ridiculously obvious. (I mean that in a good way. It's one of those fics that makes you wonder why you never thought of that pairing before.)

Still, this is the reason why SN is my fandom of hope. Right from S1, WW is all about disillusionment. Even before people get shot, before people get lied to, it's all about trying to be the good guys and finding out that it just doesn't work. It's all about wanting to do what's right, and compromising yourself to do what's smart. It starts in S1 and it just goes downhill from there. Sure, there's the occasional optimistic episode where what's right and what's smart coincide, but generally the motto is "No good deed goes unpunished".

Man that's a depressing thought to go to bed on. It's downright heartbreaking, but it does explain the sense of subtle doom attached to that fandom. I'm going to cheer myself up by listening to newly downloaded music and folding up my clean laundry.

ETA: The link to the screencaps.

Some of you may know my issues with Dana/Casey. Some of you have been subjected to my rants about why it should never, *ever* happen and how damaging it would be for them to become seriously involved.

I have found a fic that deals with this pairing and makes me jump for joy in the way that it's dealt with. Shoot the Lights Out by Anna S:

Casey pulls her aside after the show to ask her if she’s okay. "Everyone keeps treating me like I broke your heart," he confides. But where there should be sympathy, she only sees cockiness.

"Do I look like you broke my heart?" she asks.

"No."

"Then let’s go ahead and assume you didn’t."

I love this fic on so many levels. I love the Dana-voice, which feels incredibly authentic to me. I love the way that this author has portrayed something that I consider essential to Dana's characterisation: that when it comes to her personal life, Dana tries to do what seems smart, instead of trusting what feels right.

I also love the Casey characterisation. He's charming and appealing, but he's not always a nice guy. Even when he's right, even when he's being sensible, he's still that intriguing mix of smug, self-absorbed and genuinely sweet that makes me love him (and occasionally want to box some sense into him).

I love the sparse writing style. I love the way that it focuses on Dana, but the other characters are in the background and easy to spot. But most of all, I love the hopeful ending of this fic.

Sports were her first love, and she’s starting to think they’ll be her last. And for the first time, that doesn’t fill her with despair.

Giving Isaac a quick hug, she heads home and falls asleep to the sound of a taped football game. In her dreams, the crowds lift her away, and she wraps her arms around herself for warmth.

Oh my god.

Okay, I *just* heard JC's ADIDAS. *squee*

Oh, dudes, you have no idea how much I *love* this song! Such cheesy, 'get up and dance' 80s sound! I love it. (Yes, please remember I do still play The Cure when I need to pick up my energy levels. Of course, I was going to fall hard for this song.)

*bounces around room to the music*

Damnit. I may have to actually buy his CD. Mind you, last two CDs I bought were Weird Al (Poodle Hat) and Kasey Chambers (Barricades and Brickwalls). I'm picky about my CDs, but JC is getting serious consideration.

Oh, dudes, this is a perfect song to just spazz out to. The kind that you blare in your bedroom and bounce around like a moron, just because you can. (I'm not so fond of the middle instrumental section, but it's still kinda cool.)

*dances some more*
