Last night was the second Melbourne slashers house party. I had so much fun! We got to see "The Reel *NSYNC", The Sentinel, QAFUK, West Wing, Black Books and the Due South bloopers.
Hmmm... I'm not feeling too bad. Considering that I must have had at least 4 wines and OJ's (possibly five) and didn't go to sleep until 2.30am, I'm okay. A little light sensitive, a bit queasy and a bit of a headache, but considering I didn't drink any water last night, it's not too bad.
Okay, let's bold these for easy skimming value. *g*
West Wing - We watched SGTESGTJ, The Stackhouse Filibuster and the Karen Cahill subplot from the Leadership Breakfast. As we speak, Genie is making me a copy of Erilyn's tapes, so I don't actually have to part with them when I return them. (No, I don't know why I didn't think of that months ago either...)
Black Books - Just hee! Such a funny show.
Due South bloopers - Hmmm... I think it would have had more of an effect on me if I could recognise where the scenes fit in. Of course, it was S3/4 bloopers, and I've only seen "Mounty on the Bounty" for that season so of course I wouldn't recognise them.
The Sentinel - Blair! So cute, so touchy-feely. Bad show, but so slashy. (Mind you, that description also explains my love of Smallville and Young Americans. I've never claimed to have taste!)
Popslash - You know, I may get into this fandom, if only for the fact that it makes me crack up so much. (I'm not laughing at your fandom, I'm laughing with it.) I mean, the electrical bulls from the Pop Odyssee "Space Cowboy" song? *rotfl*
Of course, then you've got "The Reel 'NYNC" which proves that the boys are all amusing, confident guys who are just a little nuts, and would make shocking housemates. (I still thin Joey's the sane-est, but that could be because he's behind the camera so much.) Still, watching this, I was laughing through so much of it. Justin's highly camp "I want you" scene at the beginning is a fave, along with Chris's "We're going to an ostrich farm. We're going to pat the baby ostriches. We're going to ride the big ostriches. And then we're going to eat the slow ostiches.". Plus, the Do Run run song was great!
You know, I'm a petty, shallow and superficial girl, so it's not surprising that JC's my fave. In my defense, despite the fact that he wears those red and white striped, extrememly gay pants in the Atlantis concert and that seriously ugly flouro yellow jacket in the Pop Odessee concert, he seems very sweet. NOt quite as crazy as Lance or Chris, but still highly amusing.
Now, if they only wore suits more often, I'd be totally happy. *g*
QaFUK - This is going to be a long rant. Suffice it to say that the UK version has restored my fiath in TV programs everywhere, and that later on today you can expect a long rant on why I love QaFUK, Stuart, Vince and Nathan. And the Debbie alike, and the girl that Vince (Mikey) dates, etc, etc... *bg*
You know the best thing about the slashing gatherings? Getting to see all these shows that you normally would, and getting to borrow tapes from the other slashers. (In my case, more Sports Night and The Sentinel - S1.) Plus, there's always alcohol left over... Officially, for the next gathering, I'm bringing the booze.

Date: 2003-09-20 05:41 pm (UTC)Dude, that's nothing. The bouncy things. And they choreographed it! Chris' striptease, JC running away from the girls cause they're scary.
And if you think some of JC's clothes are bad in the concerts. *snerk*snarf*chortle* You haven't seen the dead muppet scarf, the naked lady pants, the feathery coat or the overalls.
Now you understand why it's so easy to get sucked in. They are all such goobers. And when they're together - even bigger goobers and incredibly touchy feely.

Date: 2003-09-20 05:56 pm (UTC)That's what amuses me about the clothes. They must have wardrobe staff and costume designers, right? I mean, someone gets paid for them to look like that...
Of course, I've always held the belief that the reason that boy bands are so popular is that they present a "safe" non-sexual male image to teeny and preteeny girls. They certainly don't come across as your average guy interested in sex, booze and rock'n'roll. *g* So it's only natural that adult women would look at them and come to the conclusion that they're far more likely to be gay than asexual.

*nos* And, there's a lack of depth. I'm not being bitchy, I just mean that it's not a fandom where the source material is overthought... They're not going to sit around discussing forensic science, or world politics, or violent crimes, or the next apocalypse, or the real meaning of evil. I doubt they'd talk about anything toos erious at all, so it's nice to have a fandom where your mind can settle back and relax, and just watch the pretty boys having fun.
Of course, they have great senses of humour...
Hey, you're a bigger popslasher than I am (not saying much, I know *g*) do you know if they have any appearances in suits?
I just... have a thing for suits (and ties... Mmmmm...). It's the one thing that I missed. WW may force me to think, but it's got it's own payoff in the suits. *g*

Date: 2003-09-20 06:16 pm (UTC)Have you not been shown JC's erection pants from Maddison Square Garden? There is no way that that boy can come across as asexual. He 'enjoys' performing waaaaaaaaay too much. AJ's the same.
And, there's a lack of depth.
You'd be surprised. Chris has been on Pollitically Incorrect. Kevin from BSB has testified in front of Congress.
The Nsync guys - the suits came out during the lawsuit, 2003 Grammies, some of the other award shows when their stylists didn't hate them. The Boys have a whole retro torch song thing going on during An Evening Out..., plus a few of their award show appearances as well.
Off the top of my head that's about all I can remember.

I didn't mean that as an insulting thing. I just mean... there's a lightness to the fics/fandom, this relaxing atmosphere of enjoying something for the hell of it. I don't mean the guys themselves are shallow. I'm sure they're not. (They wouldn't be so successful if they were idiots. Yeah, they have fun doing what they do, but even if they didn't I'm sure they're all savvy enough to know that it's better for their publicity if we think they do.) It's just... they're public personas are so relaxed and comfortable with each other, and it seems reflected in the fandom.
Maybe I'm getting the wrong idea of the fandom. Admittedly, I only know 5 or popslashers, so of course I'm basing my opinions of fen on you. I guess it's a case of you have a good sense of humour about your fandom and...
And basically, I'm sick of the angst. I've got that in other fandoms. I'm sick of the realism of why it'll never work in WW, of the near-apocalyptic fall-out effects from SV, of the blood and torture and screwed-upedness of BtVS/AtS. I mean, even Hornblower's a bit too serious. Well, really, it's probably just a direct reaction to trying to write WW and trying to get my head into that serious, running-on-stress world. I like being able to sit back and wallow.
It's not that popslash doesn't have angst, it's just that there's a certain optimism to it, this positive belief that things will turn out fine.
On the other hand, I drank quite a bit last night, so I reserve the right not to make any sense. *bg*
...when their stylists didn't hate them.
Bwahahaha! Oh yeah, if I was those boys, I'd be very, very nice to my stylist.

I know. I was just trying to say that for the fun - and it is a pretty happy, fluffy fandom with a lot of the fics being humorous and funny, which is one of the things that I like about it - a lot of attention doesn't really get paid to the serious stuff that they do.
Oh yeah, if I was those boys, I'd be very, very nice to my stylist.
It's no pretty much a case that any fashion disasters are their own now. They dress themselves for the most part.

And, I'm kinda fond of Nathan. *hugs QaFUK* Love this version so much more than the US one.

Date: 2003-09-21 10:36 pm (UTC)Ummm... let me explain. Nathan feels like a 15 year old. that time of life when you're naturally an idiot, when you're easily swayed and can convince yourself of the most ridiculous things. He totally convinces me that he is a fifteen year old, not trying to be pushy or obnoxious, just not realising when he is.
Justin never struck me that way. He always seemed far too calculating, to aware of himself, too careless of those around him. (I never liked Justin. *grrrr*)
Basically, Nathan seems like a mixed up teen, but basically a nice boy, who may grow into a half-decent guy. Justin's a future Brian, manipulating, selfish and thoroughly self-centered.
Hence, in comparison, I could write odes to Nathan. *g*
